Why Muslim Women Wear Burka or Hijaab and Hijaab in Other Religions?
jaab (or burka) is an Arabic word meaning barrier or partition. Hijab is the principle of modesty in Islam and includes behaviour as well as dress for both males and females. The most important thing about Hijab is that it gives you an identity of a Muslim. Moreover, it is another way of obedience to Allah's (SWT) command. How the communities of world can abide a muslim woman to wear hijaab when there is no restriction for other religions to follow the dress code according to their customs or religious teachings? In Islam, the words ofGod are that the women should be modest and follow the principle of clothing. She should cover her beauty. At home or among family or in front of her husband there is no need to wear the Muslim headscarf. Many Muslim women wear the headscarf.

Some of the women wear both head covering as well as the face veil which is called niqab. While other wear simple head scarves known as khimar. In some of the Muslim countries women have to wear the burqa and chador that covers them from head to foot. All these types of the Muslim headscarf which is said to follow the laws of God are called Hijab.
Main Purpose of hijaab is to maintain the modesty that Muslim religion teaches.
Is burka or Hijab (head cover) necessary in Islam only or in other religions?
Hijaab in other religions: Hijaab or covering of head is mentioned in other religions of world like Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhisms etc. In other religions than Islam hijaab is mentioned alongwith gaining modesty which is the main purpose of covering the face, head or body.
Quran:
Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. (An Nur 24:30)
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss. (An Nur 24:31)
Judaism:
The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. (Deuteronomy 22:5)
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; (1 Timothy 2:9)
But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. (1 Corinthians 11:5-6)
Christianity:

Hinduism:
Rig Veda Book no. 8 Hymn no. 33 V. no. 19 "When Brahma has made you a woman, you should lower your gaze and should not look up. You should put your feet together and you should not reveal what the garment and the veil conceals."
Rig Veda Book no. 10 Hymn no. 85 V. no.30 "Unlovely is the person is the husband who covers his thighs with the garment of his wife."
the Mahavir Charitra Act 2 Page 71 that When Purshuram comes, Rama tells his wife Sita that "He is our elder, please lower your gaze, and put on the veil."
Sikhism:
"Let living in God's presence, With mind rid of impurities, Be your discipline.
Keep the God-given form intact, With a turban donned on your head."

In the opinion of various Muslim women scholars, political activists, and scientists if a woman covers her head, it is not an indication of fundamentalism or oppression. In fact, by covering their heads they please God - the creator of the whole mankind. Many Muslim women represent their faith by proudly and confidently wearing the Muslim headscarf OR hijaab in public.
