Momordica charantia	Bitter gourd, Bitter melon,Karela	Bitter melon is a powerful weapon against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). MAP 30 , a protein found in bitter melon (fruit & seed) is useful in treating HIV infection; MAP 30 is capable of inhibiting HIV-1 infection in T lymphocytes and monocytes as well as replication of HIV-1 in infected cells. MAP 30 protein is able to inhibit HIV-1 integrase, an enzyme essential for gene expression of the virus. The anti-HIV effects of the bitter melon has been shown to inhibit reverse transcriptase activity and increase T-helper cells. Two other proteins, alpha- and beta-momorcharin, in the seeds of the bitter melon, modulate the activity of both T and B lymphocytes and significantly suppress macrophage activity,  without being cytotoxic.
